We nurture creativity and expression through Visual Arts, Media, Drama, and Music. Our comprehensive curriculum inspires and develops student talents.
- Years 7 and 8: Students experience all arts contexts through a two-year rotation—Visual Art and Drama in Year 7, Music and Media in Year 8.
- Years 9 and 10: Students can specialize in their preferred arts subject through year-long or semester courses.
- Senior School: Students on a general pathway can continue their arts education and further specialize in their chosen subjects.
Visual Arts Courses Overview
Our Visual Arts courses blend practical and theoretical aspects of art, craft, and design, fostering creativity, personal artistic styles, and critical thinking. The courses are divided into four specialist areas:
- 2D Visual Art: Techniques and media like watercolor, acrylic, pastels, and charcoal. Focus on drawing skills, painting, and print projects.
- 3D Visual Art: Hands-on work with ceramics and sculpture using materials such as clay, paper-mâché, wire, and recycled objects.
- Photography: Using DSLR cameras and lighting equipment to explore exposure, composition, focus, light, and color across various photography contexts.
- Graphic Design: Creating digital artworks with Adobe software, focusing on the design process and turning digital art into tangible objects.
In senior school, students can choose between General Visual Arts (2D and 3D arts) and Design Graphics (digital artmaking).
Media and Drama Courses Overview
Media: Students gain essential media industry skills, covering news broadcasting, documentary & film, game design, and merchandising. They learn about camera angles, green screens, production techniques, and Adobe Premiere Pro. In game design, students use GameMaker to create 2D video games and develop merchandise for their creations.
Drama: Courses focus on building confidence, acting skills, stage presence, and understanding theatrical production. Students explore various drama contexts, including Greek Theatre, Commedia, and Melodrama. For those interested in production, the Stage and Events stream offers opportunities to design stage sets, lighting, and costumes.
Music Courses Overview
In lower school, music courses are divided into two streams:
- Mixing and Sampling Music: Students use software like Ableton and GarageBand to create music through looping, sampling, and MIDI controllers. They develop music for contexts such as video games, film, remixing, and electronic dance music.
- Specialist Music: Focuses on the technical aspects of music composition and performance. Students participate in solo and ensemble projects, performing at lunchtime concerts. This course is mandatory for students learning an instrument through IMSS.
Throughout their music education, students explore various genres, including Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop, Film, Video Game, Musical Theatre, Protest, Decades, and The Blues.
In senior school, students can specialize in either music composition or performance.
